On 27th March, for children and their families came to see a traditional Karagöz Puppet
Story told through the ancient art of shadow
puppetry. These unique, articulated flat
figures are animated by sticks manipulated
by ismail ABAYwho can make the
figures walk and dance, jump and fight,
nod and laugh. The puppet show and traditional
tales offered a taste of the language
and culture of Turkey, a country with a
long, rich history built on multiethnic
roots. Brought to you by the Turkish American
Society of Chicago, a large portion of this
program had been in the Turkish language.
